Middle of Nowhere — House of Schock

This is a single I loved in the mid-80s by House of Schock, which was a band fronted by Gina Schock, the drummer from The Go-Gos. (There is other great solo stuff from ex-Go-Gos — Jane Weidlin’s singles come to mind…) Of course Gina Schock’s band and their one album sank without a trace, and I have never been able to locate a CD or an MP3. But in this brave new world it goes without saying that now the video of the song is available on YouTube. And it can be “grabbed” is you have suitable technology. And then, using even more sophiticated applications, the audio from video you grabbed can be “hijacked” and turned into an MP3.

So that’s what this is. A lot of bother to (re)capture a throwaway 80s pop song. (And it skips in a few places — clearly I have yet to master the intricacies of the various technologies involved. Still, to me it is a miracle that this audio file exists at all.)

  1. I love this song, and have been looking for it on the web for a while now. It was on the soundtrack album for “Bull Durham” but that passed before everything ended up as “shared” files.

Bonus points if you can find “Awake With the Rain” by Grace Pool from the same era.
