Miss Parker Understands

Miss Parker

Miss Parker was a character on the ridiculous 90s TV show, The Pretender. But I watched it just for her. She was the Devastational ideal. Beautiful, ruthless, mean, ice-cold — but you could tell, there was a reason.

This is from a cassette of a rehearsal for a one-off gig. Bianca “Flystrip” Miller, Marni Pickens & Bill Gerstel. I had intended to keep this band together, I think, but my magical destructive powers saw to it otherwise.

Miss Parker Understands

Far from the center, adrift on the land
I only feel safe in the palm of her hand
And I don’t even like her
Don’t want to fight her
I wish that butterfly had never flapped its wings

And I’ve got to call her
And I’ve got to cave in
To every single one of her outrageous demands
‘Cause it’s such a wicked world, and only Miss Parker understands

Nobody else sees the things that I see
I know that it’s true when her eyes look at me
And I don’t even like her
So hard to fight her
I wish that butterfly had never flapped its wings

Forced to pretend, but I can’t play this part
Miss Parker sets off every bell in my heart
And I don’t want to like her
But it’s so hard to fight her
I wish that all those bells were under lock and key

‘Cause it’s such a wicked world…
